Sin Motivo

Mastering Sin Motivo “El Desierto”on Erste Theke Tonträger Records.

“Finally! After two stunning demo tapes SIN MOTIVO created this untold hardcore punk 12″ bastard. Born and bred in Fort Worth/ Denton, Texas’ legacy of DIY, SIN MOTIVO seeks to push what it means to be punk in 2015. In equal parts Victim In Pain and Too Many Humans, SIN MOTIVO perpetually pushes Punk’s lack of attention span.

Psychedelic drudging interwoven with a classic hardcore punk formula balances out to create a true sonic seduction. All aspects mentioned before are finally realized in their recent opus, El Desierto, an LP brought to you by members of Wiccans, The Sentenced, and Treatment.

Their recordings capture that energy perfectly and form some of the most driving and propulsive hardcore punk I have heard in ages. You need to hear this. These songs are chaotic and unrelenting. Constant changes make the songs feel relatively short although some of them stretch out over five minutes and even the shorter songs just plod along. Sin Motivo isn’t afraid of frantically throwing anything and everything into a speedy, punk rock blender that persists of thumping around for a moment before exploding into a hardcore nail bomb.

If you like your hardcore chaotic and turbulent, you’re in for a hell of a ride. This is hardcore punk with demonic vocals and hard-as-nail beats that is extremely hard to shake once you have heared it. Ferocious, dissonant hardcore focused in intensity and all-out rage. A record full of uneasiness and trepidation.
SIN MOTIVO is another living proof for how great the current Austin punk/hardcore crop is. Recorded / Mixed by Dentons finest, Mark Ryan and Jeff Burke ( Marked Men, High Tension Wires, Mind Spiders, Radioactivity ) and mastered by Daniel Husayn ( Red Dons ) I am more than honoured to release this timeless LP.”

Piss Test 3

Mastering Piss Test “EP 3” on Jonnycat Records.

Recorded by Evan “Maus” Mersky at Red Lantern Studios.

“Piss Test are an Andy Rooney-like figure in the Portland scene. Their music—a paean to the good ol’ days of proto-punk by way of Killed by Death compilations—refuses to adhere to what’s in vogue. Their subject matter, however, almost always reacts to their environment. Piss Test’sST EP2 dresses down punk superficiality with “Leather Jackets in the Heat,” while the recent PT ST EP 3 gripes against the economics and commodification of music with “Better Pay Your Publicist.” “Vegan Coffee” sneers at the tedium of monogamy and “Methamphetamine for Cocaine Prices” pokes fun at the trendiness of crank (I think). MAC POGUE”

Maniac

Mastering Maniac “Chola Queen” on No Front Teeth Records.

“Gentlemen Punks from Los Angeles who are / were in these bands: Clorox Girls, Cute Lepers, The Girls, Images, L.A. Drugz, Red Dons. Now in MANIAC. Bringing together their varied gazpacho of musical influences, the Maniac sound is lean and angular with sonic walls of power chords, biting leads and catchy vocal delivery of lyrics that are comic yet have a dark sense of humour. Themes range from sexual frustration to internal turmoil. Maniac are a quintessentially L.A. band and bring to the table a deep understanding of the city they live in and the music they play.”

Daily Ritual

Mastering Daily Ritual “S/T” on 4409 and Sabotage Records.

“Hailing from Singapore, Daily Ritual give us an 8 track album of infectious, melodic, political punk. Musically this is in the same vein as Red Dons and Masshysteri, while the lyrics to songs with titles like “Surveillance” (We got no place to hide from their eyes), “Desperation In A Police State” (This is a police state / We hold your passports / Your access to freedom…) and “The Siren” (When the sound of siren starts to wail / You know they’re coming here for you) are inspired by life living in a totalitarian state. This is just a great LP, music to make your heart race and lyrics to engage your mind; this is punk rock!

The Stops

Mastering The Stops “Nameless Faces” on Sabotage and Dirt Cult Records.

“Self-described as “5 ladies playing punk rock.” The Stops quickly became one of my favorite Portland, OR bands since Dirt Cult made the move a year and a half ago. This, their debut LP, definitely adds to Portland’s reputation for dark but melodic punk rock (see: Red Dons, The Observers, The Wipers). The band plays driving distorted punk that is at times informed by power pop. Think of a band that somehow combines the seemingly disparate  influence of The Adolescents, The Wipers, and The Go-Gos and you’re in the right place. Members of Red Dons, The Pedestrians, and Pataha Hiss.”

Red Dons DHoT

Mixing the Red Dons “Dead Hand of Tradition” LP on Taken By Surprise and Deranged Records.

“Five years after their seminal “Fake Meets Failure” LP, Red Dons return with their junior album “The Dead Hand of Tradition,” set to be released August 10th on  Taken By Surprise Records in Europe and later this summer by Deranged Records in North America.

A lot has happened in those five years.

Two of the band’s core members Douglas Burns and Hajji Husayn left their hometown Portland, Oregon behind, for Chicago and London. They recorded and released a slew of singles on labels like Grave Mistake and Dirtnap (including a collaboration with TV Smith of UK punk legends The Adverts). Despite the distance between them, they’ve managed to tour regularly in North America and Europe.

In January this year they reconvened in Portland to record “The Dead Hand of Tradition” at Buzz Or Howl Studios, the same establishment where they recorded the album’s predecessor. “The Dead Hand of Tradition” features ten new tracks of their signature dark, driving, melodic punk rock sound. The formula of their distinctive songwriting hasn’t changed, but has matured as a result of having five more nomadic years under their belts. These new experiences have only added to the themes of alienation, emigration, and loss present in their music.

With Red Dons stalwart Richard Joachim on drums and recent recruit Ruby Sparks of The Stops (Dirt Cult Records / Sabotage Records) on guitar, the band just finished a Midwest / Canadian tour including an appearance at the Ottawa Explosion Fest last month and is returning to Europe for five weeks in the fall.
