Maniac

Mastering Maniac “Chola Queen” on No Front Teeth Records.

“Gentlemen Punks from Los Angeles who are / were in these bands: Clorox Girls, Cute Lepers, The Girls, Images, L.A. Drugz, Red Dons. Now in MANIAC. Bringing together their varied gazpacho of musical influences, the Maniac sound is lean and angular with sonic walls of power chords, biting leads and catchy vocal delivery of lyrics that are comic yet have a dark sense of humour. Themes range from sexual frustration to internal turmoil. Maniac are a quintessentially L.A. band and bring to the table a deep understanding of the city they live in and the music they play.”

Mastering Pink Hawks “Taste Your Medicine b/w Ku Ku” on Snappy Little Numbers.

Pink Hawks have just unleashed the “Taste Your Medicine b/w KuKu” 12″ onto the world!  Much like with pxlman, we’re stretching our musical boundaries with Pink Hawks.  These two tracks are jazzy afrobeat at it’s most contagious.  These songs really stretch out musically which is why we just had to press it on 45rpm 12″ vinyl.  Housed in a classic DJ single jacket on an assortment of colors, a download is of course included. Dust off your dancing shoes and play-flip-repeat!”

Muerte

Mixing Muerte “s/t” on SPHC, Cintas Pepe Records, Cabeza de Vaca.

“The awaited and hotly anticipated vinyl debut of Muerte, yet another flawless execution of “hardcore punk” from the Mexico City crew that brought you Tercer Mundo, Inservibles, Era del Vacio, Cintas Pepe Records, etc.

While the 2013 demo tape hinted at a more expanded vision and wider array of influences than their other bands, having a more goth-y anarcho-y undertone, its execution wasn’t quite perfected. Their 2014 gigs with Sete Star Sept, Tercer Mundo, Lotus Fucker, and Globsters (now THAT was a tour!!!) left a big impression on us, with a tighter and more cohesive sound and style, and a powerful live show. And their appearance at Not Dead Yet fest in Toronto, with new songs and an undeniable urgency, cemented them as, well, I dunno, basically the best newer hardcore band in the world, in my opinion.

This summer we’re proud to drop their LP, which is (in my opinion) the best single record to come out of the much-hyped Mexico City scene. Flawless hardcore punk with the finely crafted songs and informed, immediate style that these bands are known for, but with some goth/anarcho-punk/New Model Army undertone that makes this record more dynamic, moody, and dark than the average hardcore record. Slower tempos with bursts of speed that builds and releases all the tension this shitty world builds inside of you. The soundtrack to your despair and rage. Real punk music.”

Wonk Unit

Mastering Wonk Unit “Feel The Wonkness” on Drunken Sailor.

“Wonk Unit were formed several years ago by Alex Johnson, formerly of The Flying Medallions, I’m told they began as a performance art project, essentially a vehicle for vocalist Alex. Alex Johnson is a one off. He provokes reaction. Poet, songwriter, performer, “tourtured soul”, there isn’t much that life hasn’t already thrown at him.
Wonk Unit have released several albums on CD and become one of the hardest working bands in the UK, playing countless gigs (I mean, they even have their own festival, Wonk Fest!).
An obvious reference point would be Snuff (hell, Duncan Redmonds even plays on some songs and occasionally drums for them live), with the perfect UK pop- punk sound, organ and horns. Wonk Unit are much more than that though, with songs that are fun, energetic, heartfelt, thought provoking, angry, hilarious, exciting and catchy as fuck.
Never afraid to push boundaries, whilst having a sound born out of Snuff/ Wat Tyler/ China Drum, they still have an originality that makes them unique.
With songs chosen by the band, Johanns Face and Drunken Sailor and taken from the albums ‘Trolleys, Muffy, Nervous Racehorse and a couple of exclusive songs, we think it is the perfect introduction to one of the best UK bands.”

Disguise

Mastering Disguise “Signs Of The Future” on Static Shock Records.

“Dublin, like New York or London, is a city whose punk in 2015 matches its vibrancy with its refusal to be defined by one sound. Multiple bands, all with wildly divergent takes on 2015 punk, all unified in their DIY ethic and refusal to compromise. The first 12″ from searing rawpunx Disguise (who also feature 2/3 of Zom and members of Strong Boys) continues where their System Shock 7” left off, slamming together the lithe turmoil of Gloom, the monstrous purpose of Bastard, the ugly burn of Crude SS into a violent driving gunk, like Florida’s Mauser or Australia’s Kromosom, taking that Scandi-Japanese rawpunk axis and stretching it out to their own corner of the globe.

Built on a relentless sinister thrum, a taut propulsive clatter, Disguise explode with scalding fury in the screaming guitars and tortured barks and roars echoing out of the radioactive slurry. From Constant Victim pure vitriol rolling into Signs of the Future’s noisestomp groove, to Depleted Uranium heady crash and BBFM’s broken fade, this is ferocious hardcore punk, worked til its end.”
