“[POST-PUNK POP] Red Dons’ moddish post-punk has never lacked for melody, but the Dons’ new Dirtnap Records 7-inch might be the Portland quartet’s most comely pop product yet. A-side “Auslander” comes within spitting distance of the five-minute mark without ever threatening to overstay its welcome, which is a rare feat. The anthem flies by in classic Adverts fashion, with punk fury mellowed by a helping of melancholic world-weariness; it’s one of those expansive love songs in which romance escapes the trite ties of pair-bonding and attaches itself to existential equations. Which is to say you don’t need to be in love to love “Auslander.” You need only be alive. – Willamette Week

The Role Models are featured on the Heavy Hearts benefit Compilation.

“Earlier this year our friend (and Sorry & The Sinatras/ex-Trashlight Vision drummer) Lenny Thomas was hospitalised with a pretty severe injury to his foot. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse and became further complicated by his pre-existing diabetes and Lenny was hospitalised for quite some time. He’s slowly but surely on the mend now but medical bills are piling up and he’s likely to lose months of work if he’s even able to go back.

So we decided to do something to help out Len with his medical bills and lost wages. We contacted our friends in the music community – bands that we played with, people who we’d toured with, friends’ bands and bands that we were fans of – and the response was overwhelming. Today we’re very proud to announce the release of Heavy Hearts, a benefit compilation with all proceeds to be divided between Lenny’s bills and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

Released on April 6th, the compilation will feature songs from the likes of The Wildhearts, Michael Monroe, Piggy D (Rob Zombie), Steve Conte & the Crazy Truth, Eureka Machines, Sorry & The Sinatras, The Loyalties, and many more. A lot of artists were kind enough to donate rare or previously unreleased tracks to make this compilation even more special!

A full track listing is available by clicking the artists link and the album will be available through the website from 10AM (UK time) on Friday April 6th.

The sessions mastered here from Endless Column are going to be released as two 7″s on Taken By Surprise / Twintoe Records and Erste Theke Tonträger.

Taken from the Erste Theke Tonträger website:

“Douglas Burns was in the Observers. Douglas Burns wrote the Observers records, so What’s Left Now? Besides, Red Dons – Douglas Burns is now in Endless Column. And Endless Column are just like his other Bands – Beautiful!

But how this Band started? Doug told me: “David Wolf (Daylight Robbery/Pedestrians) & I wanted to do a project together. We decided that over the course of last summer we would write and record some songs together before I moved away from Chicago. He had an old 4-track that he was itching to use, so we recorded everything on that. Eric Watts joined the project on drums. At the end of the summer we wanted to play a show. So, Jim McCann (Tyrades) joined us and we recorded this demo and played our one & only show.”
So thats it! enjoy this perfect mixture of Red Dons + Daylight Robbery Songwriting, i love it!!!”
