Ricky C Quartet‘s debut 7″ reviewed at the Faster and Louder Blog:

“Remember 10-15 years ago when there were hardly any good English punk bands? Now there are so many great ones that even the “side projects” are freaking phenomenal. Seriously, the current crop of U.K. punk groups has to be the best in at least 20 years. And when members of The Blowouts, Johnny Throttle, and the Ten-O-Sevens start a band based on a mutual love for Slaughter and the Dogs and Radio Birdman, you just know it’s gonna be the balls. The Ricky C Quartet, formed just last year, have dropped their debut single. “Small Species”, another No Front Teeth/Rapid Pulse Records co-release, brings to mind the harder edge of classic Brit-punk infused with a heaping dose of Aussie adrenaline. In short, this band is 100 percent as advertised. Both tracks here deliver some snarling rock n’ roll with pissed-off lyrics and red-hot guitar leads, backed by bass lines that’ll get your booty bouncing. And let’s face it: nobody spews profanity with the panache of the English. A sing-along refrain of “Don’t fuck around me!”, so delightfully acrimonious here, wouldn’t sound nearly as cool if these guys were from, say, New Jersey. Both “Small Species” and “Tonight” imbue a profuse fuck-off sentiment with serious catchiness – a formula that can’t lose when it’s done well. All in all, this is an absolutely ripping debut record. Nothing fancy or unexpected here – just great punk played furiously and brilliantly. Where haveall the boot boys gone?”

THEE SPIVS – FLICKIN V’S

Latest single by Thee Spivs taken from their recent ‘Black And White Memories’ album with an exclusive B-side, a cover of Patrick Fitzgerald’s “Safety Pin Stuck In My Heart”. Lovingly pressed on traditional black vinyl.

LIMITED TO 500 COPIES!

Both tracks were recorded at Gizzard studios with Ed Deegan at the controls.
The band have had successful jaunts to Europe earlier this year and are heading back again in July for more! On top of this they’re also making their debut appearance at the famous Rebellion Punk Festival in Blackpool in early August, more details to follow.
Thee Spivs are Ben Edge (Guit/Vox), Steve Coley (drums) and new bassist Daniel Husayn (who you may know from The Red Dons)
Flickin V’s is already a live favourite and is set to become an anthem for disaffected youth worldwide. The cover features Ben’s uncle, who you may have heard about on their first album. He’s the one with ASBO. We can’t think why!”

The sessions mastered here from Endless Column are going to be released as two 7″s on Taken By Surprise / Twintoe Records and Erste Theke Tonträger.

Taken from the Erste Theke Tonträger website:

“Douglas Burns was in the Observers. Douglas Burns wrote the Observers records, so What’s Left Now? Besides, Red Dons – Douglas Burns is now in Endless Column. And Endless Column are just like his other Bands – Beautiful!

But how this Band started? Doug told me: “David Wolf (Daylight Robbery/Pedestrians) & I wanted to do a project together. We decided that over the course of last summer we would write and record some songs together before I moved away from Chicago. He had an old 4-track that he was itching to use, so we recorded everything on that. Eric Watts joined the project on drums. At the end of the summer we wanted to play a show. So, Jim McCann (Tyrades) joined us and we recorded this demo and played our one & only show.”
So thats it! enjoy this perfect mixture of Red Dons + Daylight Robbery Songwriting, i love it!!!”
