Mastered at NLBF: Illegal Leather “Raw Meat” on Dead Beat Records.

Released October 1, 2021

“Illegal Leather- Raw Meat LP.  Illegal Leather are fronted by the one and only Marco Palumbo AKA Terminal Gagger, lead screamer of the seminal UK punk band the Gaggers. And his uncharacteristic vocals are so immediately recognizable on Illegal Leather’s debut full length ‘Raw Meat’. Marco goes back to his roots, here, playing a similar ferocious hybrid of the guitars gnashing, lewd ‘n crude Punk Rock filth that made the Gaggers such a household name over a decade ago. With slashing guitars, throbbing bass and Marco’s caustic sneering vocals, Terminal Gagger’s vile, apathetic lyrics show his vitriolic silver tongue hasn’t waned with age. Illegal Leather’s muscular melodies and alluringly creative song writing are instantly catchy, and there’s more than enough vocal spit in the mix to satisfy any fans of Marcos previous bands including the Gaggers, Miscalculations, Disco Lepers and La Rabbia. ‘Raw Meat’ delivers a dozen oozing cuts of supercharged, menacing, bulldozer Punk that’s equal parts attitude, aggression and electricity with loud, blaring guitars driven by one of the crudest guitar tones I’ve heard in years. A fantastic slab of totally fucked Punk Rock that’ll sidle up nicely next to your Pagans, Reatards, Electric Eels and Spits records with eye-popping artwork by Terminal Gagger himself. A misanthropic masterpiece from London’s finest including a handy pull-out, lyrics sheet insert to boot.

Disco Lepers.jpg

Mastering Disco Lepers “Sophisticated Shame” on Dead Beat Records.

“Disco Lepers- Sophisticated Shame LP.  Totally diggin the stink these guys are throwin’ out there.  Like a stab in the ear, London’s most putrid, bile-spewing snotbags are back with another depraved, dose of debauchery.  DISCO LEPERS continue to hit that tattered, festering vein rattling the same snotty, thunder-punk nerve as the GAGGERS eargasm to heaven.  DISCO LEPERS brilliantly spew 11 rabid scuzz-punk rippers like the the nastiest elements of the Vomit Pigs, Satans Rats, The Victims, The Dickies and The Lewd while totally carrying their own sound and doing it better than most.  Nasty stuff as expected here from members of THE GAGGERS and MISCALCULTIONS!  As long as Terminal Gagger and Co. continue to puke out cruddy blasts of homemade genius like this, count me in!  Tuff lookin’ cover art by Jackie Sudden.”

Miscalculations

Mastering Miscalculations “Kill the Whole Cast” on FDH RecordsP.Trash Records, and Rockstar Records.

“CAPITAN MARCO of the London-based punk rock fleet No Front Teeth Records is an unweary demonio for the good punk work and he was the singer of the recently deceased GAGGERS and played in a helluva other bands. He quickly calculated his remaining super-powers: writer of excellent punk poetry + wizard of super catchy melodies = MISCALCULATIONS. That’s simple math. Bam! New band going. Together with drummer SHAUN he already wrote and pounded out two LPs on Dead Beat and Rockstar Rec. and now kills everything with this third LP. Though the Miscalculations know how to add 7+7, and Marco’s gritty and snotty voice screams ’punk singer’ with every syllable he spits out, Miscalculations definitely advanced the punk sound (some may call it Post-Punk). The 12 songs on ’Kill the whole cast’ are a tasteful blend of the sound of Buzzcocks, Wire, The Statues and even some Mind Spiders with the catchy and sharp, yet laconic guitar work and the melancholic and demanding undertone of Wipers, Masshystery or The Vicious, plus some Electro-Synth-NoWave-Punk of The Units or even The Spits. Always intense, always poetic with outstanding cryptic yrics and wrapped up in cool imagery. When this album has passed they killed the whole cast / You will be obsessed when they killed the whole cast!”

Frau

Mastering Frau “Punk is My Boyfriend” EP on Static Shock Records.

“Static Shock Records gets the honour of releasing the debut three track 7″ from London feminist punks Frau who feature members of Woolf and Good Throb. They released the much loved 8 track 10 minute demo on Tuff Enuff Records in late 2013 (which has now been reissued on LP by Dead Beat Records) and now return with three more short blasts of discordant and furious noise. ‘Punk Is My Boyfriend’ is a dirty and scratchy cut with pounding drums and an insistent guitar hook. It comes over like a mix of Pre ‘Cut’ Slits, Huggy Bear and Kleenex. ‘Snakeskin’ is possibly the only song in the world that could have appeared on both Crass’ ‘Bullshit Detector’ and any Kill Rock Stars compilation. Final track ‘Orca’ sounds like it could fall apart at any moment and just about makes the one minute mark. The guitars grind over a busy bass, heavy yet loose drums and explosive vocals. DIY has never sounded so good. Limited to 400 copies with hand stamped sleeves.”

Modern Pets

Mixing Modern Pets new 7″ B.I.Y.S.  on Secret Mission Records.

“MODERN PETS are back! With a couple of LP’s, a demo and a string of EP’s on such infamous labels as P.Trash, Modern Action and Dead Beat  Records, among others,  under their belt, this outfit from Berlin, Germany is showing no signs of slowing down. Their latest offering, a two-song scorcher, on Secret Mission Records recalls the best of late seventies-style power pop/punk rock bands like The Undertones, The Kids, Normals,  as well as some later combos such as The Hives(early on), Teengenerate, Carbonas and their fellow krauts The Kidnappers. The lead track, “B.I.Y.S.”, is an absolute fist-pumper. Punchy drums, killer guitars with a crazy fuzzed out lead in the middle. An all too familiar battle call in the chorus takes on a whole new life here. An instant classic, for sure! On the flipside is “Sweet Frustration”, a testament to trials and tribulations faced by a teenage leather jacket clad Romeo. A superbly executed sing-along that will be stuck in your head for quite some time. This EP will be out in time for the band’s North/South American Tour. A limited pressing of 500,  with  free download coupon included. And don’t forget to check them out live in the scummiest, sleaziest rock & roll pit near you!”
